What We Believe

We hold to the following 10 statements of faith:

  1. The Bible is the inspired Word of God and the only trustworthy guide to our faith and practice. 2 Timothy 3:14-17; Hebrews 4:12
  2. There is one eternal and perfect God who is powerful and all-knowing. He is our creator, redeemer, and rightful ruler.   He reveals himself as eternal Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal traits, but unity of being.  2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesian 1:17
  3. God the Father reigns over His universe and guides history to its conclusion. He is powerful and perfect. His eternal purpose makes our salvation possible. Genesis 1:1; Ephesians 1:3-6
  4. Jesus is the only, unique Son of God. He is the eternal Word who became a man through the virgin birth.  He lived a perfect life and willingly became the sacrifice for our sins.  He conquered death to offer us life and will return to judge the world.  He is the only mediator between God and us, our only hope of salvation.  John 1:1-14; 1 Peter 3:18
  5. The Holy Spirit draws us to Christ, convicts us of sin, and comes to reside within us when we believe. He brings us new life and works to transform us into being like Jesus.  He never leaves the believer, but we must seek to be filled by him daily. John 16:7-15; Ephesians 1:13-14
  6. Humans were created in the image of God - the apex of His creation. Our selfish rebellion has separated us from God.  We are completely lost – without hope and without God until we trust Jesus to save us. Genesis 1-3; Ephesians 2:1-7
  7. Salvation is the free gift of God to all who truly believe in Christ. We cannot earn it nor pay for it.  Because of what Christ has done God grants us salvation the moment we believe.  Those who trust Christ want to glorify him.  John 3:16-17; Ephesians 2:8-10
  8. The church is both the universal body of all believers and the local fellowship of believers joined together in spiritual community. The church is tasked with making disciples through worshiping, teaching, ministry, fellowship, and sharing about Jesus.  We observe two ordinances – Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water as a symbol of Christ’s death and resurrection, and the Lord’s Supper is a celebration and memorial of Christ’s death.  Acts 2:37-47; Ephesians 4:11-16
  9. We acknowledge that Satan, our enemy, is real and powerful. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy.  He works to prevent believers and unbelievers from trusting Christ.  Christians are called to struggle against him and his cohorts.  God within us is far more powerful and will judge him at the end of the age.  John 10:10; Ephesians 6:10-18
  10. Marriage is a biblical institution established by God as described by Scripture. We affirm that the biblical definition of marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment. Accordingly, this church’s pastors and staff will not officiate in same-sex unions or same-sex marriages, nor will its property or resources be used for such purposes. Genesis 1:26-31; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Rosena Church is an autonomous local church with a cooperative global connection. We support missions, ministry preparation, and other causes through the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention and affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
